Visiting Rinka Waterfall in the Logar Valley, Slovenia

Rinka Waterfall is one of the most famous waterfalls in Slovenia. It is located in the heart of the Logar Valley, in the middle of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

This region of Slovenia is really stunning, but it is often overlooked by people who come here for the first time – which is a pity if you ask me!

Since we have lived and traveled through Slovenia for over 5 years now, we have explored almost every corner of this country. With this guide, we want to help you visit Rinka Waterfall by sharing everything you need to know for your trip.

A bit about Rinka Waterfall

Rinka Waterfall has a photogenic 90-meter drop, which makes it the second-highest waterfall in Slovenia after Boka Waterfall.

The sight is really impressive, not just because of the height, but the entire scenery.

Rinka is known to not have a high volume of water. As it falls from a high orange cliff, it creates a beautiful and unique view you can only find here, in the Logar Valley.

Rinka Waterfall is part of the Savinja River. It is stronger during the spring months and after any rainfall. During the peak of summer, Rinka Waterfall can be quite dry, with very little water coming through because of the heat.

PS: Rinka Waterfall is “Slap Rinka” in Slovenian, so those are the signs you need to follow.

Where is Rinka Waterfall located?

As I have mentioned before, Rinka Waterfall is located in the Logar Valley, in the northern part of Slovenia.

The valley is part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps which are right on the border between Slovenia and Austria.

You can find the exact location of Rinka here.

How to get to Rinka Waterfall

The best thing about Rinka Waterfall is that it is super easy to access. The closest parking lot is this one, located only a 10-15min walk away from the waterfall.

This parking lot is free and large enough to accommodate big vehicles, including camper vans. There is a €7 fee to access the Logar Valley during the high season, though. This fee has to be paid at the entrance of the valley.

Since Rinka is one of the easiest waterfalls to reach here in Slovenia, it is suitable for kids, families, and people who are not into hiking. On the other hand, for this very same reason, it can get quite crowded around here during July and August.

Trail to reach Rinka Waterfall

The trail to Rinka Waterfall is so short, it can barely be considered a hike by itself. This is, however, the starting point of a lot of longer hikes around the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

The path from the parking to the waterfall is a bit steep but easy. It is important to wear proper shoes. The gravel trail is always full of loose rocks, which can get quite slippery, so we recommend having nice walking shoes.

There is a nice viewpoint just on the foot of Rinka Waterfall, at the end of the trail. If you want a more unique view, there is also a wooden treehouse on the right side which is actually a bar.

Once you go up to the bar, you can have a drink there or just enjoy the view. It is a really cool setting.
