SLOVENIA TRAVEL GUIDE

Rio selaron steps

Slovenia is a lovely country located in central Europe. For the basketball fans, Slovenia is probably most famous for their wonder-kid Luka Dončić, and for the travelers, the most iconic place is the magical Lake Bled.

Slovenia is a special place for us because it is the country we call home. Edo has lived here his entire life, being originally from the small town of Novo Mesto. In 2019, it also became Fe’s home, when we both started exploring the country together, bringing a mix of tourist tips and local hidden gems.

Slovenia may be small in size but it does not lack attractions and views. Here, you can experience a bit of everything – from the sea to the mountains and lakes, passing by incredibly well-preserved cities. And that is just the start!

Rent a car in Slovenia

If you want more freedom when defining your travel itinerary through Slovenia, we recommend renting a car. If you do not have a European Driving License, then you should present your original license accompanied by an International Driving Permit. Have in mind that many rental companies may not request to see your international permit, as it the driver’s responsibility to obey the law. That being said, we never had issues when driving in Slovenia. Click on the button below to check the price for renting your car in Italy with the website we always use.

Travel insurance

When travelling to Slovenia from abroad, it is always important to have international travel insurance. The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is accepted for emergencies in public institutions, but it does not apply to every situation. To make sure you are covered, especially when practicing sports such as skiing, snowboarding, climbing, or hiking, it is of utmost importance to have good international travel insurance to travel worry-free. VisitorsCoverage is the company we use to get our own travel insurance and the only one we can truly recommend.

Booking a flight to Slovenia

The only Slovenian airport is the Ljubljana Airport (LJU) which is located approximately 25 kilometers out of Ljubljana. From there you can grab a taxi or a bus to bring you to Slovenia’s capital. A lot of passengers decide to fly to one of the neighboring countries and then come to Slovenia. You could use Venice (VCE), Treviso (TSF), Trieste (TRS) in Italy, or Zagreb (ZAG) in Croatia.
