Visiting Slovenia in July: Our local tips on what to do
July is the high season for visiting Slovenia, as it is the middle of the summer. It is one of the busiest months here, but there are a lot of incredible places to visit and events worth checking out.

Weather in Slovenia in July
Since July is the peak of the summer here in Slovenia, the weather is typically very hot. We put together below the summary of the average temperatures for you:

Regarding rain, July tends to be quite a good month because it rains significantly less than other months. However, since the temperatures can get quite high, it is common for us to have summer storms at the end of the day.
Precautions to have in July due to weather
There are two things you should have in mind when traveling to Slovenia in July:
- If you go hiking, check the weather forecast carefully so you are not stuck in the mountains during a thunderstorm. If the forecast is not good, we urge you not to insist. Every year, a lot of accidents happen exactly like this.
- Since temperatures can get quite high, make sure you always carry water and sunscreen, whether you plan on being at the beach or in the mountains.

Festivals and events happening in Slovenia in July
July is a very active month around here. These are a few of the most interesting events happening around the country:
- Volleyball on water: A very cool event happening in the center of Ljubljana with a volleyball competition happening inside the Ljubljanica River. In 2024 it will be held on the 5th and 6th of July
- Bled Music Festival: A yearly event where they build a lot of musical stages across town. Happens this year between 1-14 of July.
- Beer and Flower Festival: Happening every year in Lasko, this event brings together music, beer, and a lot of entertainment. It will be held this year between the 11-14 of July.
- Film under the stars: Open-air cinema set up in the Ljubljana Castle. Every night, a different movie screening happens at 21h30. This year, the event will go from 11 July to 3 August. You can check the schedule and get tickets here.
- Piran Summer Festival: A stage is set up in the main square of Piran, which is a magical setting for events. It will happen between the 23 of July and the 6 August in 2024.
Best places to visit in Slovenia in July
July is one of the months with the best weather here in Slovenia, so you can go almost anywhere and have a great time.
Here are a few of my personal suggestions for this time of year:
- Visit Kozjak waterfall in in Kobarid
- Do the Seven Lakes Hike in the Triglav National Park
- Explore Piran and visit Tartini Square & the church of St. George
- Spend a day at Lake Bohinj
- Go beach hopping on the Slovenian coast
Costs of traveling to Slovenia in July
The downside of visiting Slovenia during the high season (June, July, and August) is that the prices are significantly higher compared to the other months.
The best accommodations tend to get sold out, especially during the weekends when the locals also take time to travel.
You can expect to get prices up to 50% higher for accommodation and rental cars in the month of July. Restaurants normally have the same price all year round.
Most natural attractions also have a special higher price in July for the high season. Take Tolmin Gorge, for example. Tickets cost € 6 in the lower season and climb up to € 10 in July and August.
There are also some attractions that closely monitor their maximum capacity. It already happened to us when visiting Vintgar Gorge that we had to wait around 20 min at the door for the capacity to free up.
Pro tip: Want to avoid this issue? Aim to visit the most popular attractions at the start of the day or the end of the afternoon. These are usually the quieter times.

- Swimsuit
- Water shoes (most beaches here are gravel beaches)
- Rain jacket
- Good hiking shoes if you plan on going hiking
