If you are looking for a luxurious and exclusive experience, Hotel Fasano is the place to be. With its stunning oceanfront location on Ipanema Beach, this hotel offers unparalleled views, top-notch service, and elegant rooms.
One of the things Hotel Fasano is most famous for is their roof-top pool, which has simply the best view of Ipanema Beach and the sunset. They also have a famous rooftop bar that hosts very exclusive events.
Hotel Fasano is where a lot of famous actors and singers stay when they visit Rio. It is often featured in the news and design magazines, and it is considered one of the best hotels in Rio de Janeiro.

Located between Copacabana and Ipanema, Hotel Arpoador is in a prime location and one of my favorite areas of Rio de Janeiro. This hotel is perfect for travelers who want to experience both beaches and neighborhoods, as you can explore on foot.
Hotel Arpoador was recently redesigned and offers breathtaking views of the ocean. You will have Ipanema Beach right at your doorstep, literally.
Hotel Arpoador has also recently revamped its restaurant, so it now offers the full-package experience. Non-guests can also visit the restaurant. This 4-star hotel is definitely one of the best places to stay in Ipanema.

One of the highlights of staying at Sol de Ipanema is its location – you can literally walk to the beach in a few steps, and you are also very well connected to public transport since there is a subway station only 450 meters away.
Rooms are cozy and comfortable, perfect for a relaxing stay. If you want to make the most of your time there, get a room with an ocean view and you will understand every morning why this is one of the best hotels in Ipanema.

Looking for an exclusive apartment that also offers a luxurious experience? Ipanema Penthouse might be the answer for you.
Ipanema Penthouse is perfect for larger groups as their apartments can host 6 to 12 people, but they can also be booked by smaller groups or families. The apartments are very well decorated, with a lovely balcony and a lot of space and communal areas for the groups.
We personally love staying in apartments, so this is one of our favorite options for a place to stay in Ipanema.

If you prefer a more independent stay, Flat Ipanema – Vieira Souto 5000 might be the perfect choice for you. This apartment is perfect for a small family or group, as it hosts up to 4 people.
The apartment is located in a beachfront private building, so you will have the experience of staying in Rio like a local. The balcony of the apartment has a side view of Ipanema Beach.
Flat Ipanema is also very close to a subway station so you can quickly get anywhere in town.

Anexo Ipanema
Anexo Ipanema is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for a more budget-friendly apartment option. This apartment is two blocks away from the beach, located in one of the most interesting areas of Ipanema, with a lot of options for stores, restaurants, and bars.
Anexo Ipanema can host up to 4 people so it is ideal for families or small groups. The apartment has a very unique decoration and is completely furnished with everything you need for a nice stay.

Ipanema Inn Hotel
If you prefer the comforts of a hotel, Ipanema Inn Hotel is definitely a great option. This charming hotel has an excellent location, just one block away from Ipanema Beach and close to many restaurants and bars.
The rooms are cozy and well-equipped. Besides their assortment of standard and superior rooms, they also offer duplex suites which are perfect for groups of up to five people.

If you are traveling on a budget and prefer a more social atmosphere, El Misti Hostel Ipanema is the best option for you. El Misti is one of the most famous hostels in Ipanema and it is the place I always recommend to friends looking for a hostel experience.
They offer shared rooms as well as private rooms and are located just one block away from the beach. El Misti has a very sociable environment, so it is a great fit for adventurers and outgoing travelers. They have a bar that can also be accessed by non-guests.

Ipanema Beach House
Another great hostel alternative is Ipanema Beach House. Located three blocks from the beach, this hostel offers a very laid-back experience.
They have shared and private rooms, distributed in a large house with a swimming pool in the courtyard. It is a very nice option for a place to stay if you are looking for shared accommodation.
Ipanema Beach House is located almost at the border between Ipanema and Leblon, so it is very easy to walk between both neighborhoods and to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

Che Lagarto Hostel Ipanema
Last but not least, we have Che Lagarto, a famous hostel chain that has multiple locations around Brazil. Their place in Ipanema is almost at the border between Ipanema and Leblon, located very close to the beach.
I have not been to Che Lagarto Ipanema but I have stayed in other locations and have always had a good experience. For us, Che Lagarto is a synonym for a good quality hostel and friendly people.
They offer shared and private rooms with different sizes and amenities. If you will be traveling on a budget, this could be one of the best hotel options to stay in Ipanema.

Best areas of Ipanema to stay
We can divide the Ipanema neighborhood into three sections: Arpoador, the Lagoa side, and the Beach side.
Arpoador
Arpoador is where Ipanema and Copacabana meet. It is the end of the neighborhood and one of my favorite places to stay in Ipanema because you have easy access to both beaches and a lot of things to do within walking distance.
Arpoador is also one of the busiest areas. Morning and afternoon traffic can be quite chaotic during work days, but you have the subway station of General Osorio close by to avoid the rush hours.
The Lagoa side
On one side, the Ipanema neighborhood faces Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, the largest lagoon in Rio. This side of the neighborhood is very residential, there are not a lot of hotels available but there are quite some apartments for rent.
This is my least favorite area of Ipanema for staying during a vacation. It is simply not as interesting as the other two and I always find myself walking back to the beach zone multiple times a day.

The beach side
On the other side, you have Ipanema Beach in all its gloriousness.
There is a lot of debate as to which is the best beach in Rio, and Ipanema is always at the top of the list. When it comes to a place to stay, there is no better option in my opinion.
Bonus tip: The only area I don’t recommend staying in if this is your first time in Rio is near Cantagalo as this is a small favela/community, and it can get quite noisy in the surroundings from my experience.
What to do in Ipanema
Ipanema is a lively and vibrant neighborhood, with many things to do for all types of travelers. Here are some recommendations:
