When it comes to flying into Venice, there are a few different airports that tourists can choose from. Venice Marco Polo Airport and Treviso Airport are the two main airports for tourists flying into Venice, and both offer their own unique set of pros and cons.
In this article, we will compare the two airports and provide a short guide on how to get from each airport to Venice city center. With these tips, you will be able to decide for yourself which airport is a better fit for your trip.

Venice Marco Polo Airport, also known as Venice International Airport, is the main airport for tourists flying into Venice. This airport is the closest one to Venice city center so if you are looking for practicality, this is the place to go.
If you are flying to Venice from an international destination, you will find more flight options coming into Venice Marco Polo than the other local airports in the region. Marco Polo is the largest airport around and it offers flights from multiple internationally renowned airlines.
How to get to Venice from Marco Polo Airport?
Venice Marco Polo Airport is located about 13 km from Venice city center, and there are a few different ways to get to the city from the airport.
Taxi: The easiest way to get to Venice from the airport is by taking a taxi. Taxis are readily available at the airport, and the ride should cost around €30-40.
Bus: If you’re looking for a cheaper option, there is also a bus that goes from the airport to Venice, stopping at Piazzale Roma, the closest place vehicles can come to Venice. The bus costs €7 each way, and it takes a bit less than an hour to get to Venice city center. Check the tickets here.
Car: If you don’t want to take a taxi or bus, you can also rent a car at the airport. We recommend this option only if you will be traveling to other Italian cities as well as Venice, otherwise, it is not worth it since the parking at Piazzale Roma costs €30 a day. The rental car agencies are all located in the arrivals area of the airport, and rates start at around €35 per day. Get a car quote.
Waterbus: Venice’s official transport mode is boats and if you fly into Venice through Marco Polo, you can choose to get a waterbus straight from the airport into the city. The route between the airport and Venice is provided by one company only, called AliLaguna. Check their schedule here.
Watertaxi: Want private boat transport? Get a watertaxi from the dock located next to the airport and you can get to Venice in no time by boat. This is by far the most expensive option, but it is also the most comfortable and exclusive one.

Treviso Airport

Treviso Airport is often considered a low-cost alternative for flying into Venice since it is a hub mostly used by local European airlines. It is a small airport and usually has fewer flights than Venice Marco Polo Airport, but it can be a great option if you find cheaper flights there.
The airport has only one terminal and just a couple of restaurants and shops. If your flight is in the evening, the shops will most likely be closed as, from our experience, they tend to close around 19h. There are a couple of ultra-touristy restaurants around the airport if you need to kill some time but the best option would be to bring snacks with you if needed.
How to get to Venice from Treviso Airport?
Treviso Airport is still located quite close to Venice but it has poorer connections to the city if compared to Marco Polo. Here are the options for how you can get to Venice from Treviso Airport:
Bus: This is the cheapest option available, you can take ATVO bus line 351 which will take you to Piazzale Roma in Venice. Check the tickets here.
Train: There is no train station at the airport, but you can get a local bus that will take you from the airport to the Treviso Train Station. Get the bus at the bus stop located right outside of the airport and, once in the station, you can get a train to Venice’s main train station called Santa Lucia.
Taxi: If you want to take a taxi from Treviso Airport to Venice, the ride will cost around €100.
Car: You can also rent a car if you will be traveling to Venice and other destinations in Italy. The ride into town should take you around 40 min by car. Get a car quote.

The best way to get to Venice from Verona Airport is by taking a bus or train. There are a few shuttle buses that connect both cities but if you prefer to take the train, you will first have to get a local bus from Verona Airport to the train station. Once there, you will be able to get a direct train to Venice Santa Lucia – trains run multiple times a day but you can check the schedule in advance here.
You can also get a private transfer through the platform Get Transfer which allows you to book the service in advance, fully online. It is one of the most comfortable options to get to Venice from Verona Airport and the ideal solution for groups.
Trieste Airport

The easiest way to get to Venice from Trieste Airport is by train because this airport has a train station at its premises. This means that once you land, you can just take a train directly to Santa Lucia train station in Venice. Of all of the international airport options we have mentioned in this article, this is the one located furthest from Venice. Even so, it can still be a viable option for flying into Venice because they often have quite affordable prices from low-cost airlines.
The best way to get to Venice from Bologna Airport is by train – the ride will take between 1h 30m – 2h, depending if you take a direct or regional train. Once you land at Bologna Airport, you will need to first make your way to Bologna Central Station but the good news is that they are connected via a monorail service called Marconi Express.
All in all, you can see that there are a few different international airports that tourists can fly into when visiting Venice. The best airport for your specific case will depend on your individual travel needs and preferences.
