Figuring out how to get around the country is one of the first steps when planning a trip to Croatia, and a lot of people start wondering whether they can use Uber during their Croatia trip.
Since we go to Croatia every year, I am here to answer all your questions about using Uber in Croatia. Let me start by assuring you that Uber has been present in Croatia since 2015 and it is a service that works really well!
We use Uber often when traveling around Croatia.

Where does Uber operate in Croatia?
Uber is present in most popular Croatian cities, especially the larger ones like Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Split, etc. Most tourist locations are very well covered.
You will only have a hard time using Uber in Croatia if you’ll be traveling to remote locations or staying in really small towns. In this case, I recommend renting a car because it will be the easiest way to get around.
Do you need to rent a car for your trip?

We always use DiscoverCars to rent our car. So far it has proved to be not only the cheapest option but also the most reliable one. We used DiscoverCars to rent our car for our trips through Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia, Italy, and so many other countries, and we never had any issues. We even convinced all of our friends and family to use it. So that’s why we are also recommending it to you!
Using Uber to arrive and leave the airport
The main reason most people look up Uber services in Croatia is for driving from the airport to their accommodation and vice-versa. I can assure you that this is a great airport transfer option because Uber rides are usually cheaper than the local taxis you’ll find at the airport.
Unfortunately, it’s actually common for local accommodations to say that Ubers aren’t allowed at the airport but that’s a lie. They do this just to offer you a specific driving service, which is often overpriced! I’ve seen this scam happen way too many times… so I had to mention it here.
If anyone tells you that you can’t get an Uber from the airport in Croatia, just check the app and you will see that this is not true. You can use Uber from Dubrovnik’s Airport, Zagreb’s Airport, and all others.
You’ll need an internet connection to use Uber during your trip to Croatia, so make sure you get a SIM card before you board your plane! Airalo is the company we use on all our international trips and we can’t recommend them enough!
Uber prices in Croatia
In most cases, Uber prices in Croatia are cheaper than local taxi fares. The price for your Uber ride will be calculated on the app when you order it (which is one of the best things about using Uber in Croatia!).
Here are a few price examples for using Uber in Croatia:
- Uber price from Dubrovnik Airport to the Old Town: € 24.95
- Uber price from Zagreb Airport to the Old Town: € 17.94
- Uber price from Zagreb Airport to the Old Town: € 29.90
Pro tip: Did you know you can get an Uber quote online before your trip? Use either your phone app or the Uber website to simulate the route you’ll need a ride for and check upfront how much your Uber ride will cost.
Local alternatives to using Uber in Croatia
Besides local taxis, there is another company similar to Uber operating in Croatia called Bolt.
They also have an online app and a similar system. You can download the app and book your ride online.
However, in our experience, Bolt has fewer cars around so it still pays off to use Uber in Croatia in most cases.

Is Uber in Croatia safe?
Yes, absolutely.
In fact, I would say that using Uber in Croatia is safer than traditional taxi services – not because there is any physical danger with the latter, but because you’ll book everything online, leaving little room for miscommunication.
One of the biggest advantages of using Uber is that you book the service upfront, so you know exactly how much it will cost you. You also input your destination online, which really reduces the chances of mistakes.
When you use a regular taxi service, there is a chance the driver will not speak English and you’ll have to deal with the local taxi fare system, which is less transparent.
So yeah, I would say that using Uber in Croatia is completely safe. We have used it multiple times for going out at night, which is the best option if you’ll be drinking.

We recommend SafetyWing, they have very flexible insurance plans covering almost every destination in the world! Take a look at their options and prices below.
Tips for using Uber in Croatia
Here are a few things to have in mind when using Uber in Croatia:
- When you order an Uber, many times the car that will come will be a traditional taxi. Don’t get scared, that’s completely normal. This happens because many of the drivers are registered on multiple platforms.
- If you select payment by cash, make sure you have small bills to make things easier. I honestly try to avoid paying with cash whenever possible.
- You can schedule an Uber for up to 90 days upfront in Croatia, which can come in handy if you’ll be needing a ride in a very specific timeframe. This can be useful for scheduling a ride from the airport, for example.
- You will need data on your phone to use Uber in Croatia so make sure you have a working SIM card. We recommend Airalo but you can also read our comparison of the best local Croatian SIM cards here.
