How long should you stay in Hvar?
Hvar is one of the most beautiful destinations in Croatia, but it’s not one of the most accessible ones considering it’s located on an island.
When planning a trip, most people ask us how many days they should stay in Hvar.
I’ve visited Hvar Island a few times and I can tell you that you should stay at least 3-4 days in Hvar to get to know the island. I’ll explain below why this number and all my tips to help you plan an epic trip.
How many days should you stay in Hvar Island?
Since Hvar is an island destination, it takes a bit of time to get there considering the ferry time and driving. So, to make your visit worth it, you should consider staying at least 3 full days (4 nights) on the island.
If you spend less time than that, you’ll have to be selective when picking between the main things to do since most options are full-day trips.
If you are more into slow travel and want to spend time at the beaches, you could easily extend your trip and stay up to 5 days in Hvar.
That being said, Hvar is known as a party destination. So, if you’ll be visiting the island for the beach clubs and beach parties, I’d recommend extending your stay to at least 5 full days in Hvar so you have time to party and explore.
Is it worth spending longer than 5 days in Hvar?
If you have more than 5 days to spend in Hvar, I would consider splitting it between Hvar and another nearby island destination. Korčula, for example, is located very close to Hvar and is the perfect complement to this trip!
So if you have 7 days in total, I would consider staying 4 days in Hvar and 3 days in Korčula.
The eSim we recommend!
Don’t have time to read the entire guide? No problem, this is the international eSIM card we always recommend here at Mauka. It’s the one we always use when we travel and the only one that’s never let us down.

What to do in Hvar
The reason why I recommend spending at least 3 full days in Hvar is so you can do the following:
- Day 1: Full-day boat trip to Blue Cave
- Day 2: Explore Hvar Island by car or scooter
- Day 3: Boat trip to Pakleni Island + beach day
You can switch the order of these things, but I’d say these are the basic things to do in Hvar to make sure you can get to know the place.

What to do if you have less than 3 days in Hvar?
If you will be spending only 2 days or less on Hvar Island, you’ll have to choose between the 3 main activities I listed above.
If you have 2 full days in Hvar, I’d recommend doing the full-day boat trip to the Blue Cave and exploring Hvar Island by car or scooter.
However, know that you’ll be missing out! This will be a really fast-paced trip.

Is it worth going to Hvar for just 1 day?
Personally, I don’t think it is worth going to Hvar for just 1 day.
Don’t get me wrong, Hvar is a stunning destination. But you’ll lose quite some time with transport to get there and back and Croatia has a lot of other paradisiac destinations that are more easily reachable from the mainland.
So if you have only 1 day, I’d consider staying in Split and doing a boat trip to Hvar or visiting Krka National Park, for example.
